The Onion by Gary HoffmannToday I tell you I was in
Telepathic communication
With a medium sweet onion.
And it said without a grin,
Nor shame, nor pride, nor violin,
Without malice or benevolen-
ce or fear,
"I'm an onion."
There was only a great cognition:
Against the might of All creation
It must keep on onionin'.
And as I grokked its situation
I understood its trepidation,
but even so its pure elation
was clear,
"I'm an onion." 01/14/2007 Posted on 01/14/2007 Copyright © 2025 Gary Hoffmann

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 01/14/07 at 06:31 PM How brilliant. I love the cooking and food-related poem themes. Today while prepping a small onion for making biscuits, I was told in no uncertain terms in my eyes that this was an onion. Forgot to do the cold water first on the hands trick, and it was a strong one I guess. Brilliant poem. |

Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 04/26/09 at 12:50 PM I'm grinnin' like an onion. The truth in this is so deep, I wonder why I'm grinning? |
