Engagement

by Kathleen Wilson

I don't want to marry all the poets
and no flirting either.
Just
engagement—

words,
eyes,
now:
epiphanic rings

of clover flowers
press in my dictionary.
And camellias on either side
turn to ruby and blue sapphire,

yes.
And the rush of
waves.
I want to hear the
clasp engaging, the

snap, the lock,
the click, the
train to take off,
and leave me a space

to insert
the rose,
gold and multi-flora
opening on

the next page.

ha. it's funny. i often think to myself, i don't want to marry all the poets either, just flirting, no engagements...i leave that for the filmmakers with whom i can pretend until the film reel ends. the poets i like for the dialog of dancing. marriages i leave to boxers and made men. i'm really glad i found this one.

We need those next pages so very much. Without poets, without artists, we might soon tire of nature's monotony. The sublime idea we have of the universe may collapse with dizzying speed. and the order which we find in nature (which is only an effect of art) would at once vanish. Excellent write!

A uniquely crafted, fresh and dare I say 'engaging' poem - the way poets interact through their artistry is a phenomenon in itself. I like the progression in this poem to the personal fruition/embellishment ("leave me a space") leading on to "the next page" - suggests a fruitful continuation from the one engagement to the next.

This is a wonderful piece evoking the very essence of the poetic community.

an "engaging" poem, but who would expect less of you? And...i'm afraid your poetry flirts too much With ones attention to deny it is happening when it does!

You've started out 007 with a great combination of poems. Very well done. I should think you would have poets flocking to your door and asking for your hand!!! Especially the writing hand.

A warm rhyme indeed, and yes...engaging!

Kathleen, no, I don't want to marry all the poets either ... just engagement. Your use of word play is absolutely fantastic here. I had to keep smiling all the way to the end of your poem. Thanks for writing this piece.
