fairytales are for children, not the realistic by Christel CrewsThere is no dragon to conquer
Nor a sleeping spell to break
No secret door or passage
Just a fortress built of pain
I succeeded in pushing all away
Except a chosen few
Hoping and praying for one
Who would fight his way through
Past the briars grown around
The walls I built of stone
I will not raise them higher
Nor will I tear them down 12/14/2006 Author's Note: maybe its the fact that i was raised on Disney's fairytale falsehoods and maybe its the fact that deep down, i'm a dreamer, but there is something to be said for prince phillip who fought through hell itself to win his lady.. where is that today?

Posted by Tim D Livingston on 12/16/06 at 05:36 AM I love how you said of the walls, "I will not raise them higher, nor will I tear them down." Don't change your standards and never stop dreaming. You are absolutely worth fighting for. You are a princess with a heart of gold. |
Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 12/17/06 at 03:05 AM I agree, you are worth the fight! |
Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 12/17/06 at 03:08 AM Addendum...this nicely sums up the fear of letting someone inside and the fear the no one will ever try...great write! |
Posted by Sarah Graves on 12/19/06 at 03:50 AM I really like this, full of dreams yet in a realistic way. It seems only the perfect (just right) guy has the ability to enter this circle. Great read! |
Posted by Michelle Angelini on 12/19/06 at 06:13 PM Yes, I believed those same fairy tales myself, but I finally came to realize that if I held my breath and waited for prince philip, I'd turn blue. I finally exhaled and began living my life for myself, still holding on to the dreams and visions important only to me. Still, sometimes I wonder where all the good ones are... A terse reminder that women want that love that Disney put out in his fairy tales...Is it real or just a fantasy???

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 12/19/06 at 11:08 PM You've succeeded in writing about that dilemma of our personal expectations. Fairy tales are definitely best left in books. I like how you have described your inner strength combined with inner fear of letting someone in. |
