....Her Hands...

by Kristi Paik

They are a story in their own right

Of a working woman

With the heart of a lover

And of a fighter

The lines of strain and force

Her battle scars a tribute

To overcoming the war of life.

The story of raising three all on her own

Who helped by crying with them through

Acne and heartache

Denial and heartbreak

The story of coming home

At 9 at night

When she left at 5 at dawn

And still found the time

To learn to love her strength

And teach it to her flesh and blood

And know that her hands

Have the power

To teach all things

Life will never tell you about

Immediately in this poem-- we focus on those hands and the image grows stronger as we read. Much life and strength is concentrated in this focus and the vision and embrace of a daughter's hands on her writing tool to create, transmit this grasp of her mother's love and life.

I am going to take a leap here and think this was written about a mother or other caregiver of great merit...in either case, this is an amazing tribute and great pick for POTD

This poem is as great a joy to read as to read a mother's love in every every battle scar upon her body, starting with stretch marks on her belly that parallel the stretch marks on her heart and to a mother's heart, badges and marks of honor. Beautiful pick for POTD. Thanks for sharing this.

Your Mom is lucky to have a daughter this thoughtful. This is a very pretty and heartfelt poem, a proper tribute to the sacrifices she made.

Nicely fleshed out tribute here Kristi. And I like the title, with so much strength in a mother's hands, hands in general, what they accomplish in care, love and teaching.
