70 Years Not Miles per Hour

by George Hoerner

slowing down to see the flowers
the trees in all their greenery
I ask nothing
not even understanding
which the kids take for granted

like communication
for whose color i still search
not green like my trees
or red, pink, purple
as the sunset

but more the color of wind
which my dog understands
as his head rests on
my lap

George, I enjoyed this succinct piece immensely. It leaves a good taste in my mouth when I read it aloud. A lot of wisdom here. Thanks for the read.

I don't know what it is. I can't quite put my finger on it and say, yeah I think I know, but it seems to me your words always collect themselves in friendly and ever warming gestures.

I love the slowing and and looking of this poem. I walk everywhere--so I really identify. "the color of wind"--I love that. Your poem gives me sweet chills of recognition and yes, approval, the moment is resilient and asks nothing but for--"communication" (engagement). Sweet and sure.

I feel a peaceful wisdom in this piece, and love the last stanza and the fitting picture of the loving, patient dog with friend.

I like this piece very much, George. It has that way off in the distance feel to it. It makes one stop and take notice of their own surroundings, and just how special that is. Nice work!

I would have done well to read this early this morning before I got pulled over for going 90. This is very refreshing.

Wonderful imagery. You've taked me seemingly back to a place I've never been.

Good to see this as POTD, George!

Great POTD. George you've done it again, dazzling, simply dazzling, this spirited philosophy which you hoist over our shoulders and dare our heads to stretch their necks to touch.
