I rest my eyes in those boughs

by Shirin Swift

Forests raise us to their cheeks and to their cheeks we adhere,
where branches raise our lips to theirs as they do, so shall we disappear;
I rest my eyes in those boughs, see a tear of foliage reappear
and a kiss of sky, I make a ladder of your vows, return
humanity's twigs to the fire, that I may endure.

I love this. It's as if a wood nymph is dancing through the leaves, with a garland of flowers in her hair. She's scattering leaves and love in her path. The repetition of syllables, exact and slant rhyme add so much interest to this short poem. Wonderful. ;-)

This is such a wonderful write. And we pay all to little homage to nature.

The natural imagery in this piece is amazing. It almost seems as though we are lost puzzle pieces out of synch with nature because of our humanity. I will keep thinking about this one. Thanks for sharing!
