Well within myself?

by Laura Doom

I regard this foul chimera
with sheepish grimace,
distinguishing Medusa's
raw hiss of contempt
from sullen satyr's
specious pipes of panic,
and despair of having borne
in secrecy, for too long
Hell's ill-conceived issue.

Is subsistence viable
without the sphere of influence
discharged by such a noxious core?
I strain my eyes to focus
on animus in stark relief,
the residue of light
a dissipation of disease;
my faithless trigger to release
a slurry of mitigation
that pours cold comfort
on virtue served as apéritif
to a diet of introspection.

Thought provoking piece; text well reflective of its title. Reminds of that old Roman Polanki B&W psychological horror movie, starring a very young Catherine Deneuve, titled Repulsion.

Looking inside, feeling the pain and agony of one's self ... ouch! I felt this on a deep level, Laura.
