This Adventure You're On

by Kristina Woodhill

this adventure youÂ’re on
this leather back jacket thatÂ’s worn
but still covers, itÂ’s torn
from the slide ins and gored
showing fresh wounds
the flesh spared but nerves raw
from twisting and straining
as hands turn the pages
and eyes beg for more

this adventure youÂ’re on
giving whip snapping action
I ride cutting capers
your mustangs before me
IÂ’m breathing in sage
in a maze of wolves snarling
their teeth rippling air
as I race after phantoms
that lead me to cliffs where
I hang and you Â…Â…..

this adventure youÂ’re on
with walking stick rhythm
my pace begins racing
to pathways you build
turning corners that top hills
I push through the silken fog
ignoring gravity
reaching your Shangrila
far from my sanity

and here in these worlds
where youÂ’ve tempted and
taunted me,
led me on loversÂ’ trysts
fed me on irony
drugged me by words that
you shoot through my veins,
straight to the heart
this adventure youÂ’re on

Hi Kristina. Wow! I love every word here. From title to end line. And that penultimate line is spot on! Thanks.

Unique tribute to the author of thrillers! They can really draw the reader in for sure!

Wow, what a trip. This metaphoric piece covers all the bases, except for the happy ending. But then again, its open-endedness is what makes it so intriguing. Good stuff, Kristina.

Kristina, the continued use of "this adventure you're on" throughout the poem it right on. I love how your words sprawled on the page to tell a story leading straight at the heart of "this adventure you're on." Great poetry! :)
