Silence of the Sky

by Kristina Woodhill

That day
The towers fell
The plane hit ground
A building’s shape
Was realigned
What I remember
Hauntingly was the
Silence of the sky

Though TV screens
Screamed out the tale
To ears and eyes
So horrified
What I remember
Hauntingly was the
Silence of the sky

The word went out
No planes could fly
As Eyes searched
Far and wide
And I remember
Hauntingly that
Silence of the sky

I know for sure
Had my eyes
Been clear
And my anguished
Tears been dried
I’d have seen the angels
With these souls
Fill the
Silence of the sky

Hi Kristina. Have the sky ever taken on such a significance? Wonderful, and love your final stanza. Glad you lent your voice to that day's rememberances.

Poignant tribute Kris. Reminds me of a beautiful photo I saw in the newspaper the other day of two powerful searchlight beams shooting straight up from ground zero in place of the twin towers.

Its a beautiful tribute. One can see and sense the scene on two different levels.

I love the way the repetition ties it together.... and amazingly strong ending. I also think you are right... Well Done!
