Clothes Line Encounter

by Kristina Woodhill

Nudged by the kitchen window
I spy
An early morning
Clothes line encounter
One tiny bird
in quiet conversation
with his new friends
perched
all in a row

A brief moment
In this morningÂ’s blessed chill
This cool lulls even
his need for speed
with a soft, sweet breezy breath
both fresh and so refreshing

he
bemused by his friendsÂ’
upside-down wing configuration
hopeful some might join him
as he flits away to ride the currents
of another welcome day

they
from their permanent holding pattern
wave woodenly (no offense intended)
the kind breeze allowing them
some movement
some hint
of the freedom of the sky

I too love my garden, planted primarily to attract wildlife & I can appreciate this encounter, an alien voyeur with anthropomorphic tendencies :> Fresh, clean, yet intimate expression of nature hanging out with the neighbours.

I can just picture this little bird bobbing on the line, cocking his head trying to get some response out of the clothes-pins. This would make a darling illustration. Very nice!

I smiled when I read this, picturing the images you so beautifully laid out. Excellent use of vivid, very real imagery.

A poem for the birds! (lucky birds!) I really like, "In this morning’s blessed chill". Thanks for this, much enjoyed it.

How adorable! I've watched birds and they do some amazing things. I love the imagery here and this moment of life that takes the reader out of the ordinary into nature's world.

just so sweet and brilliant, this moment you've captured. i am so taken with the second stanza, but it's all fresh and lovely...not sure about the part in parenthesis, that took me away from the moment and the flow a little, but still a fantastic read, very impressive the way you captured the moment here! I LOVE the picture here - I see it! And I bless both "parties" -the one who wants to fly in the cooler air and the ones who want to still sit and enjoy it. DELIGHTFUL!

Hi Kristina, That little birdie is something else. Thought I've found some new friends, even thou it was clothes pins. That would be something to watch. I can just see it now, thru your words. This is so cute. Great write. It's a big hit with everyone. I also agree with the others too. It's going on my favorites list.
