I did not request an invitation to your club house anyway

by Vere Mantratriad

it was my own delusion
that tricked me to believe
that long gone were the days
after graduating kindergarten
where I would be called out
for spreading cooties

it was a trick of the eye
and so-called adulthood
that fooled me to believe
imaginary restraining orders
could not be upheld
merely by anyone
with audacity enough to
issue them en masse

perhaps it is wishful thinking
that led me to believe
that joining a community
meant you were there to commune
and not just to enjoy the applause
and multitude of refreshments

how simple life must be
to weed out the disagreeable
led on a feeling
what amazing logic that
I have not heard uttered
since the days of
seperate drinking fountains

surely, we could all get past
this impending trepidation
with the knowledge to believe
that one who comes solely to
destroy is just a troll
so let us pay the toll
and move on

You can come to my club house anytime, I would even let you use my straw. I really enjoyed this! Fab line "it was a trick of the eye and so-called adulthood that fooled me to believe"

Vere, my mind's made up. I'm starting a new community and you can be the first to join. There are no fees and no dress requirements. Your poem most certainly makes us feel what it's like to be doused with a repellent that repels other people for no reason at all ... other than being who we are. I haven't seen any type of signs up telling the fakes and phonies of this world to "keep out." Very good poem, indeed! This is going in my favs.

oooh! —I like the discussion your poem is creating, Vere! And I'm with Kyle Anne on

Your poem most certainly makes us feel what it's like to be doused with a repellent that repels other people for no reason at all ... other than being who we are.

Sad how people so easily forget that on the other side of the moniter...there's a person. We speak of treating others how we ourselves want to be treated. It surely extends to every one? Yes!

Hi Vere. Not sure I get the foundation inspiration of this, but a lively read just the same. Congrats on hitting No. 1!

When I was a college student in the late 70’s, an instructor remarked, “Aren’t you are glad to be past all of those social cliques?” Of course, she was wrong. You brought that to mind with this well written piece. I like the “kooties” and “separate drinking fountains.”
