Medicated to the One I Love

by David R Spellman

I’m gonna take
my medicine
and sit quietly
in the shade
listening to the music
that doesn’t play
anymore
and in my head I’ll think
I’m not crazy at all
so you will be safe
I’ll not be sorry to see
tomorrow come again
never remembering
yesterdays
or how I came
to be this person
that you don’t recognize
without the rose-
colored glasses we
left behind.

I laughed when I read the title, and cried when I sang this song. How lovely....you are quite talented Mr. Spellman.

Such a weaving of words and mood. A song, for sure.

most likely a country song? Powerful in this form for sure, and so sad. Well done.

there is an inherent beauty in this poem, it is simplely intoxicating...I felt as though I could hear someone reading this to me...well, well done...a pleasure as always, peace n love, jewels

LOL! How can one not be drawn in by the title? And yet what we find is an incredible worthy expression of romantic regret and longing. Masterful stuff Dave. Here's to love...past, present...and future.

Oh, Dave, the title is so clever and cute, and then the poem is so eloquent and sort of sad. Beautiful piece. Congrats on POTD!
