21 - Thursday

by Lacy D Phillips

Too hot to rain, the air is thick today.
I feel as if I could scoop it up in armfuls
carrying it along to suffocate my ponderings.
The soupy sky hangs nearer my reach than ever
but contains nothing to pluck from its infinity.
It is monotone and simple as a clean slate,
an empty canvas so deceptively full.
Guilt for a dying planet keeps me sweating
as I decline air conditioned vehicles
in favor of downed windows and speed.

Author's Note: Day Four of the One Week Challenge! This is getting so hard. Lucky for me, I was thinking about air quality all day. It was an Ozone Action Day and I saw some moron mowing at Noon:45! Of course, I want to eventually expand this piece to include my thoughts on how heavy concentrations of particulates in the atmosphere buggers with vehicle aerodynamics and thus how much it would reduce fuel efficiency. Also, someone needs to calculate how much fuel it burns to run the air conditioning in a car as opposed to loosing efficiency by rolling down a window and creating drag.

This one just punches me as I am sweltering this week, trying to stay out of the heat, and definitely using AC at home. The whole car industry is so maddening - profitability before responsibility. Gad.....

This is my absolute favorite so far in this series....I love the style of it and each line is utterly brilliant. Just beautiful.

this is another good product of your experiment...great imagery herein, esp. "he air is thick today./I feel as if I could scoop it up in armfuls" AND "soupy sky"...you rock, peace, jewels
