Desiring You

by Ken Harnisch

Lust is a sin

But Desire, my darling

Has its charms

And is blessed to the moment

Where I teeter now

On the precipice.

Had I not kissed your lips

I would not miss them so;

Had I not held you dear

I would not know

The ghosts of all

My past embraces

To have been

The shadows that they were

Ah, the ageing heart

Is the most foolish

Of GodÂ’s creations

And yet: Had I nothing to

Live for then it would get wise

And old in equal measure

While withering to a raisin

On the vine

We all have our poetry

For which there is

No explanation or apology;

Mine is desiring you.

Nicely stated Ken. Perhaps why some of us fall under the category of "once bitten, twice shy." Yes, Desire seems to encompass an emotional, spiritual longing for another, whereas Lust, simply physical.
