a new love song by Mary Ellen Smithlove, let us write a new love song
full of the life we have led.
a song for the years we have left behind
a song for the years up ahead.
full of the sun on the horizon
mixed with the tears of the past,
whatever the Lord will grace us,
a song that will last.
love, let us write a new love song
our grandchildren's voices are there
and we'll sing it to them as they sit on our knees
as long as God's graying our hair.
a song full of the love we have shared, dear
a song for our children to sing.
and we'll write a refrain
that we'll sing to each other
over and over and over again.

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 06/08/06 at 05:50 AM Hi Mary. There is a sweetness here that is short of being over the top, yet it gives a fullness to your beautiful poem. |
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 07/04/07 at 12:36 PM It is a grand theme, lasting love, lasting marriage; growing old together (without staleness). Wonderful! |
