whoooooooooooosh

by Peter Humphreys

bridge
shuddering
express
train

steaming
gushing
rushing
children

watching
feeling
smelling
hearing

ash
smoke
sparks
soot

sweaty
muscular
men
shovelling

eager
exciting
dashing
mystery

just in time

just
in
time

to
feel
that
surge

whoooooooooosh ……

I love steam locomotives, and this poem. Whooosh, indeed!

A stimulating, fun read, and like any amusement park ride...over much too quickly.

Great energy in this one - I can see this as a child's illustrated book or a poem for me to read and re-read.

Trains seem so much more prevelant in European coutries...I'm envious. Though this seems nostalgic, it's not over-the-top sentimental. I'm delighted with its reading. Thanks.

I just love what you do with split-second moments! I lay inside the words for lengths of time!

I love the word
whoooooooooooosh
