Impertinence by Kristina WoodhillI wish I had the nerve
To dive bomb enemies
The speed to dare any comers
The dare to look a cat in the eye
How many times can
I shake you loose
Only your tail poking out
Of that muffled mewing mouth??
A cat has nine lives
How many a hummingbird?
Perhaps I need to change my diet
To sipping sugar water from a glass
Letting giants feed me for the simple
Entertainment I would give them
With my mini air show
Your carefree life lifts my heart!
I feel as light as you are, tiny bird,
And in this way
You give me wings

Author's Note: Two days ago our Tabby cat came muffled mewing to the back door with a small tail poking out of her mouth. I shook her hard and out popped Mr. Impertinent, who, without a thank-you or nod goodbye flew up and away to start its game all over again.

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/23/06 at 02:14 PM LOL! Reminds me of a black cat my family had when I was a kid. It too brought us home "gifts." Thanks for the reminder! :o) |
