I Am Not Your Ally by Joan SerratelliI am not your ally
I don't agree with you
the only thing we have
in common is her
and an opposing
point of view
You want me to agree
with you; I cannot
do that- not when it
involves her
You look at her
and see yourself,
the mistakes that
you have made
You see only the past
When I look at her
I see the future
I see a young woman
trying to be brave
and true to her own heart
You say she's ruining
her life; I say her life's just
begun- the mistakes she makes
will be her own
You wanted her
to chose a different road
than the one she's travelling on
but you've got to realize
that she's her own person
not mine and certainly not yours
I am not your ally
I am hers 05/18/2006 Posted on 05/18/2006 Copyright © 2026 Joan Serratelli

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 05/19/06 at 11:49 PM I like how this unfolds. Your faith in her shines clearly through. I love the beat and finality of the last two lines.
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/21/06 at 08:59 PM Much to ponder here, a case well made, and a sense of danger in her coming between you in whatever lies ahead.
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 05/12/07 at 10:12 PM Can someone say "AMEN"???? I relate to this more than you know. Can I borrow the last two lines the next time my children's father wants to try to get me to "back him up"? We are NOT a united front, and I suspect if we could've pulled that off, we might have been able to remain a couple.
