(Lies)...and No, I'm not crying

by Kristi Paik

the lies started
with the Easter bunny
or St Nicholas
even more ridiculous
a fairy
who steals your teeth

and no I'm not crying
its raining and I'm sitting outside

from there
we are forced to recite the pledge of this allegiance
and Hail Mary's to something Holy
one nation under god?
AND IF we question it
we go to hell in a hand basket

and no I'm not crying
its this crappy pen
and my pinky keeps smearing the ink

pay attention to the lies
the lies have us surrounded
running to the library
they track the books we read

tapping the phones
to hear what we have to say
to become a target
for this terror in America

And no i'm not crying
i have something in my eye

We sacrifice freedoms to never be free
because they say its for our own good
they think that we don't know that
they are up to no good

and no I'm not crying
is the water ring from my cup

EVERYTHING they say turns out to be a lie.

Author's Note: I wrote this after reading about yet another possbile scandal about the Bush Administration tapping private American conversations through NSA. It made start to wonder just how many times in throughout our lives we are lied to. And I lied...it did make me cry.

Unfortunately, this poem speaks the truth. We live our lives being lied to, never being able to trust- very sad. Excellent job.

It's an emotional realization... every time. There are few things more emotionally damaging than being lied to. Very nicely expressed.

This very clearly illustrates your feeling of betrayal. Well done.
