Serene Dream

by Kristi Paik

I’m going to carry my bed with me into New York City tonight
Complete with ripped pillows and dangling sheets
I will be prepared so I don’t have to ask for too much shelter
From my weak and exhausted friends

I will sleep under 400,000 faint little stars
Coated underneath pollution and excessive electricity
I will sleep under the streetlight
That glistens the black roads

I need to be as close to my pillow as possible
In case a dream or fantasy should pass by
Dreaming no longer comes as easy
As it was as a child

I’m going to wake up dazed and confused
to the smell of coffee in the window above
And the garbage grinding in the street below

I’m carrying my bed into the city tonight
To dream (hopefully)
Of a better life.

Sometimes the last line of a poem doubles nicely as its title. And this poem seems to be a buildup to that last line, and a potential title.

I would take the last 2 lines and make it into the title. i like this piece- very vivid images, good lines 'Dreaming no longer comes as easy As it was as a child"- very true. Excellent write- I like the concept of this piece!

'on my own', and thats what this assertive piece suggested to me

I see the feelings of hope in this piece, and the hope for a better life is really the hope for a grand dream, or rather, a grand IDEA, creative and meaningful. Yes, one can place himself actively in a position of SEEING that grand dream, and then he must MOVE. That's how I felt.

What I mean is "then he must get up and fulfill that dream through ACTION". Nicely done!
