Reflections In A Time Machine by Chris Sorrenti
look into the glass
no science fiction device
a familiar face gazing back
hopefully your best friend
so subtle the changes
from that first surprised glimpse
yet inside
becoming more who you’ve always been
as another soul travels down
that mightiest of rivers
with its own bends and whirlpools
rapids and calms
stocked with the things you do for yourself
in unison with the whims of destiny
but a device designed for eternity?
why not ask the smiling face in the mirror

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 05/02/06 at 01:44 AM "hopefully your best friend" - what an important statement!! I really like the idea of a soul traveling the river of life. I also like the questioning at the end, leaving me thinking about this. |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 05/02/06 at 02:49 PM yes, I like the river analogy in here best and it's all thought-provoking and so insightful. Great work. |
Posted by Julie Adams on 05/02/06 at 04:37 PM what a lovely little introspective piece...initially wanted a stanza break before "so subtle"...but still seems to work regardless...nice read, peace, *jewels* |
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 05/03/06 at 01:00 AM Philosophical and theological as well. What we are we are becoming! A paradox of sorts but very much in tune with the Gospel. |
Posted by Ashok Sharda on 05/03/06 at 01:43 PM Well, we can be our best friends but then we can be our best enemies. Is the choice ours? Yes, if we decide to refuse to stick to false justifications. But what if this self 'stocked with the things you do for yourself
in unison with the whims of destiny'??

Posted by Rula Shin on 05/07/06 at 11:19 PM Yes, one can look and see this living time machine in that smiling reflection, some parts gone forward and some backwards, though why can't the time machine never does simply stand still in time? Well I suppose that's not it's function haha This is very creative indeed, I really like the metaphor. |
