Full Moon by Kristina WoodhillTonight, they say
Sun and Moon sit at opposite ends
Ones face reflecting the other
Fully, yet distantly friends
Look more closely, I say
Open your humdrum minds eye
To a magical possibility
To a fresh way to look at the sky
A monthly cherished outing
For Moons distant, lonely friend
Freed from his sizzling tasks
Allowed to caress and befriend
Moons cold, and cavernous core
Her sharing and brave embrace
Receives Suns molten heat
The perfect glowing safe
Suns heat shed, he shakes his head
And rides the cosmic wind
Blows a warm but gentle kiss
To Moon, his true blue friend
In dark and grateful garb
He roams the welcoming skies
Hugging old friends he meets
Joining in star lullabies
Moon knows hell soon return
And chuckles cause Suns such a tease
He always stops off at the Milky Way
And brings her a fine wheel of cheese
Tonight look up with new eyes
While you search for a dish chasing spoons
As the little dog barks and the cat plays his fiddle
Think what might be inside that full moon.

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 04/14/06 at 05:26 AM Hi Kristina. Fanciful! I love the idea of the moon being a "true blue friend"! I am again enjoying a breath of fresh air, and a lightness from your writings. Thanks for that. |

for mooning us...Charlie |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 04/15/06 at 12:34 AM As we both agreed, there's magic in the air...literally with this poem. Nicely harkens me back to my days as a boy with a telescope I got for Christmas one year, exploring the heavens, including the moon, and was even able to see the rings of Saturn. And that's no cheese! |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 04/15/06 at 02:38 PM This poem made me smile, especially the last stanza. Fun read! I don't think I'll ever see the moon in quite the same way again :-) |
Posted by Peter Humphreys on 04/18/06 at 07:23 AM Dear Kristina, I love this poem for many reasons including the fact that not only does the moon reflect in every sense its relationship to the sun but we are part of that triangle too. In many relationships it is the brighter object that attracts human attention, yet it can be the less dominant, luminous and the constant that is of at least equal value. A favourite. |

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 01/09/08 at 06:05 PM The embodiment in this poem of so many ways at looking at this conjunction... in legend and playfulness is wonderful. The ever present vision throughout the poem, above the words as if silently watching... I feel that inexplicable silence, our mind's eye drawn to the wonder of that both at once moment-- and the "what's inside" of it and a "fresh way to look at the sky". Such unusual occurences provoke such a fresh response and open up our ways of seeing... as you here do. |
