Winter settles into my flesh by Julie Adams
the air is electric now
gliding on its own current
like lightning
or the train tracks before me,
waltzing between my loose locks
as if for the snowflakesÂ’ delight
winter settles into my flesh
and upon the glistening street
the puffy clouds cast a spell
in a sneeze of flurries, sprinkling
their frosted fairy dust
as I peer through winterÂ’s cold indifference
the wind and snow compete
for my attention, squinting
but train headlights hide
behind the white drift
silently gliding like a Japanese screen,
just beyond the station awning
where long icicles grow towards the ground,
like cave caverns
I long to wander through

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 03/14/06 at 09:06 PM Brrrr...such a chilly scene, yet alive with imagery, metaphors, and similes. Even though I'm a warm weather person, the beauty you present here, almost makes me long for an unheard of snow day in Los Angeles.
