canopy

by Elizabeth Jill

Oh but do I wonder about
the galloping plans of
the Oak Tree before me.

Here it stands
e'en tho the wind
does shake its leaves.

What is it really getting at?
What message is it cantering,
resolute, from it to me?

That it is an Oak Tree
standing tall.
Its canopy upon me.

this would be very good even without the galloping horse, but the animation actually enhances the rhythm and the metaphor. excellent!

Galloping oak trees? Well there goes the neighborhood. LOL. Seriously though, short and punchy, thought provoking piece. I like how it shows you...all of us as an intricate part of nature.

How original an idea. I love to write of the trees, never thought of them moving along. Perhaps you were on horseback or in a car? I love your images you find too.

Many messages to find in this one, Jill. Fascinating to ponder!

Well, I had the feeling that there was a secret in here... pehaps the secret of language of oaks??? "Cant is an example of a cryptolect, a characteristic or secret language used only by members of a group, often used to conceal the meaning from those outside the group." Perhaps the oaks (speaking in cantering triple beat rhythms..(like the three lines of each stanza) speak to you in that language... you their message..in the whispering leaves...and distract us ...with an cantering sense of humor...

What is it really getting at? What message is it cantering, resolute, from it to me? ... am I the only one who longs to set the horse free? This is a favourite. Beautiful.

I don't know what you fed that wonder horse but it must have been something special, like your poetry, cause it has been running since 2006. I hope it never stops, like this poem will never stop running furlongs in the tracks of my being.
