He writes poetry with his camera.

by Elizabeth Jill

I know you've met my brother because
you place bookmarks in his pages and
paperclip your mind to his honesty.

You are found in his irises,
where he blends languages
of the deepest sadnesses with
his astonishing trust in
persistent goodness.

You are found in his visits with
old doors and chipped window panes,
in faces that hope, like weather vanes do,
whenever searching for what is true.

A clear marked map, a road
I've always wanted to walk,
he seeks insight inside dark rooms
and he writes poetry with
unsleeping film.

Him, a thousand years old at childhood,
answering my sister-question how?
with his brother-answer, ancient wisdom.

There, he told me,
are corners of the Earth.
Trust me.
Go stand in one.

I never knew we could.

He writes poetry with his camera.

Author's Note: My brother is a Photographer and a Teacher. And he teaches Photography! but if you were to ask him, he'd likely tell you that Photography teaches him. :) I will give you the web site for his slide show in my journal. ::: It is likely that my brother will not remember ever giving me any answers. He always lifts my feet so gently that the moments seem invisible to him.

He writes poetry with his camera the way you do with words!

Your poem, and what your brother said, reminded me of a feeling a had in one of those "ordinary" moments that suddenly become "extaordinary" in one's memory. In a moment of confusion when my life and home seemed in disarray, I realized that the thing that I was dropping on the floor was dropped on an actual spot (exact location) on the spinning earth. And that I was standing on one too...it was a very comforting and clarifying thought! It is because you write so vividly that you could awaken my memory!

A beautiful tribute and description. I can only echo the other comments.

As an amateur photographer myself, i am fascinated by your tribute to your brother and his art..for truly it is art he deftly creates through the lens..and you captured it so beautifully!

If your brother is half as good with his camera as you are with your pen; he's probably very talented- you are. EXCELLENT write!

This was one of your poems I had yet to read. But how could I miss THIS???!! I am glad I went searching. I absolutely love this and would love for you to share that link with me sometime. I would LOVE to see your brother's awesome work, for I am sure it is awesome, base on this poems descriptions. You write from the heart the most excellent pieces and that is why your work is especially appealing. I really enjoyed reading this poem,Jill(as I do everything you have written). :)
