Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 09/07/05 at 02:24 PM the subject of this poem is befitting that I use not my own words here, but something which Khalil Gibran says on what I feel is the essense of this poem., and as this magnificently wise poet and prophet is someone I share similar feelings with, I am proud to share these, his words.
He says:
Oftentimes have I heard you speak of one who commits a wrong as though he were not one of you, but a stranger unto you and an intruder upon your world.
But I say that even as the holy and the righteous cannot rise beyond the highest which is in each one of you,
So the wicked and the weak cannot fall lower than the lowest which is in you also.
And a single leaf turns not yellow but with the silent knowledge of the whole tree.
So the wrong doer cannot do wrong without the hidden will of you all. |

We must behave like impeccable warriors in this BATTLE FOR LIFE against certain death. ‘I am every link in the Chain of my dark’….and so alive causing effects for causing more effects, never allowing us to disassociate from this chain turning our what IS into dark. It’s not only easy to identify with this scene but also to SEE ourselves in the middle of this scene.
But do we? Are we capable of SEEING beyond this darkness? Or do we keep on seeing and justifying this darkness as light, justifying this darkness as light? ‘Shall I continue to eclipse all lights Emanating from the sources full of life?’…Do we? Can one, after having walked out of these dreams? Having SEEN the realities of what IS? But then knowledge of the path doesn’t necessarily lead one to the destination. One needs to walk. One needs to put SEEING into BEING and BEING into ACTION.
Yes, ‘I must cease to strengthen the barricades…’ - We must ACT, we must get into conflict, we must confront death in this arena of life, it’s a battle between you and death and the arena is life. It’s a battle between your dark past and you in this battleground of life. Life demands this battle but it recompenses you with life. Once you ‘rise again, burying the dead’ it’s you and your life free of these umpteen chains determining your what IS, so far. Yes, ‘with certitude and determination, with patience and assertion, with positive suggestions deeply internalized, we must remain active and alert from moment to moment, keeping watch on every move of this dark past. We must behave like impeccable warriors in this BATTLE FOR LIFE against certain death. Rula, life must be BITTEN into. You always take the biggest chomps. Leave a bite for me! hahaha
