Acquiesce

by Mary Ellen Smith

For a little while I slept

And found me in my sleeping, wept.

But stayed my eyes refusing light

Even with the days invite.

Naught could take me from my bed.

For now the pillow keeps my head.

This sleepy down, this feathered sky

Holds my thoughts, and thinking, I

Decide just now to hold on tight

to what was dreamt deep in the night.

But oh! The beauty, perfect dawn

I acquiesce, and rising, yawn.

I know the feeling... especially after these late nights I have been keeping lately... too bad those dreams disappear all too soon sometimes. I like the rhymes, a delight to read. Do not wake too soon from the weeping, lest you loose the fruit of sleeping.

Lovely! Probably we all have felt this way more than once!

one cannot help but acquiesce to your slendiferous imagery and rhyming, it is a wily and nimbly articulated and crafted and honed thread and pushed through our needling.

Absolutely lovely, Mary Ellen. Very lyrical, slightly "archaic" (in a good way) language, perfect couplets, and a well-turned sentiment. My only critique is the extra beat in the next-to-last line, which is easily fixed if you drop "this".... d:-)
