Blue Heron

by Michael Faraday

Squawk-talk
Primal and primitive
the echo spoke
mother wind swooshed
her wishes
leaves turned-up the volume
silent wings of slate gray
graceful and prehistoric,
a stealth stalker
still like a pink plastic yard flamingo
until the bullfrogs croaked.

I see them quite often here and you have really captured their prescence quite well with this.

Your descriptive power in this poem is ever-so-right-on, Michael. I can't get over the imagery ... "graceful and prehistoric; a stealth walker" ... great combination of words. I love this poem.

Your colaboration with nature certainly shines through here, Michael. It brings to mind the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary near my home where I often hike and meditate in the early hours. pe4ce...

Your sparse but elegant description does justice to this regal bird.

Congratulations on POTD. You've done such a good job of capturing the elegance and primitive beauty of these beautiful birds. The next time you look at a heron's face think "velocoraptor" and know that the dinosaurs are still with us.

And mother wind swooshed now is tickling my mind. Before the night's over, I'll have the whole poem printed out in giant flamingo letters and glue them to my wall. I can't help loving this poem!

This poem takes me to places along ocean bays and swampy rivers where I've watched the blue heron. For me it is nostalgic in its descriptiveness.
