manatee by Bradd HowardI always wanted a mer-man
to take me under in his cool, watery embrace
to tie me up in sea weed and never let me go.
I always wanted a mer-man
that would sing me songs of the ocean's depths,
lure me to the rocks
and laugh as my body crashed there
I always wanted a mer-man
to rise from the sea
let me touch his triton
kiss his prongs
... then I see you riding the waves
glorious in your wetness
looking like everything I ever wanted
but as you got closer I began to see
you were nothing more than a manatee
and I cry for a dream shattered
sing my own landbound songs and watch your tail
disappear into the waves. 06/06/2005 Posted on 06/06/2005 Copyright © 2026 Bradd Howard

| Posted by Paul Marino on 06/06/05 at 07:21 PM i like the repition and love the first stanza, and opening line doll. had a little trouble with the last stanza in the transition from first to second line; wasn't sure if it continued or stopped. other than that, it was hot. |
