Attack by Bruce W Niedt
That pain across the chest
was the warning shot, fired across my bow:
reverse your course, or prepare to be boarded.
Pirates in the bloodstream
threaten to cut off the trade routes
and lay siege to my capital.
Now in sick bay,
I can assess the damage,
get my vessel seaworthy again.
But its time to rethink
what I barter with my body
before the whole empire collapses.

Posted by Kristine Briese on 05/23/05 at 02:38 AM This is excellent - so consistent in its theme, and I love the imagery. "Pirates in the bloodstream"...outstanding! |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/23/05 at 03:09 PM I didn't find it ambiguous at all. The message, analogy perfectly clear...heart attack. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/03/05 at 05:42 AM Your brilliant poem is potent to one who has had one or two shots across his bow also. Your poem awakens me to the danger of imminent take-over of the vessel. Now all I have to do is captain the rudder and mainsail into safer seas. Wonderful metaphor! Thanks for sharing and for the needed message. |
