36 Minutes

by Nikki Benson

When she spoke
The silence was broken of 363
Inside I jumped
But couldn’t fully tell
Couldn’t free the word to say
Couldn’t find the word
But what was taken
Was given back
But not forgotten the
The space in-between
But I am happy with
The present of her present
I hope the most I ever have to wait
Will be 36 not 363
For the silence to be broken with she
When she speaks
I’m more alive when she speaks

Nikki, congratulations on POTD! Great read.

This enigmatic piece reaches beyond poetics, Nikki, and if I were a numerologist I would make note that everything (including the date it was written) breaks down to three. This sends my mind off searching for the mystical trilogy. While the meaning is somewhat arcane, I do sense a rhythmic quality that gives it strength and if put to music would make a very fine song, as well as a very fine Poem Of The Day.

I am struck by "the space in-between" and "the present of her present". Great POTD! Thank you.

Nikki, CONGRATULATIONS on POTD! The more I read this, the more I understand. It's not a poem that is simple to interpret, but I sense it's about a conflict or impasse between two people. They may have once been close, then for some reason, grew apart. Even one word from either might be what either wants, yet both are not sure how to get to that point. Still, the narrator has gotten, at least for the moment, a partial fulfillment of a desire. Excellent, and I'm glad to see you get this honor.

Mmmm...after thinking on this a day--it occurred to me that the 363 is almost a year. (If thought of in days) and that perhaps you'd waited that long before silence was spoken, just shy of a year. Yes. 36 minutes is better. Just a thought, but it made me appreciate the poem even more!
