Memories of You: Part III

by Gavin M Roy

I remember being twelve years old
sitting in your tan Caprice Classic
red clay dust clinging to the sides.
Those long drives across the bridge
seemed to take forever.

Author's Note: This is a series about my Opa (German for Grandfather) who passed this morning after a brief struggle with cancer and other health problems.

though from the tragic loss, the poems in the series are very fine writing, Gavin. Among, if not the, best I've seen of yours, if that's any consolation.

In prayerful sympathy for you and the family Gavin. The series is developing into poetic snapshots that will make a very memorable album. This particular one has, as has been noted, great description and deep emotion.

Gavin, sorry to hear about Opa, I'm sure he was special to you. I'm impressed by the emotional impact of this series of poems very much. I look for more in the series.

Your images are so evocative and stimulating to my mind's eye. I imagine many of us could write poems about moments with parents or grandparents in cars that were special in our lives. Condolences and blessings to you and yours for your loss, Gavin. Thanks for this lovely poem.
