The Repentant Heart

by Mary Ellen Smith

Oh, I shall never lonely be
For my Savior’s here with me
In my heart where He resides
The grace and mercy He provides.

And I don’t know and I can’t see,
Just what it is He sees in me
But that He does and loves me yet
Tempers my sorrow and regret.

A plaintive but hopefilled confession or testimony! This succinct and devote poem reminds me of the verse (from one of the Psalms I think. "God remembers that we are frail and made of dust." Also, St. Paul's words, "It is by grace that we are saved, not of ourselves, lest any man should boast."
