The Difference Between To and Too

by Chris Sorrenti

Some may say I'm splitting hairs
especially those taking issue
with my preference for you and I
over me and you
but that's where the similarity
begins and ends

For the way I was taught
when just a young lad
an extra o divides two words
as an ocean continents
I'll say it only once
so class pay attention
I take no pleasure rapping knuckles
with this grammatical ruler

To is for travel
as in going to the mall
too implies quantity......distance
concrete or abstract
as in too many times
seeing these two words confused
is too much for me to bear
or maybe that should be bare?!
so if you want to avoid seeing me
splitting hairs or better hair
choose your to(o)s carefully
and you and me will score straight As

this is too funny to comment on! I found this right after delicately pointing out to our mortgage rep this morning, that he'd spelled "principal" wrong on our form, principale, as he's francophone. I said I'm sure it's legal, but as a writer, I should had to point it out. splitting hairs, again.

Chris, you've taken a subject and created a comparison that is TOO funny TO read TO many times ... for fear of laughing TOO hard! :) Thank you. I needed that.
