The Secret of the LIGHT

by Rula Shin

I commenced my journey
Claiming to find my sight
Vowing every waking moment
As dedication to this meaningful quest
Of which no one could dissuade me
I seek out the LIGHT!

All the shadows around me
In their bitter darkness cry out
When I manage to see their glimpses
I search out their somber forms
Seeking their cold hands to journey together
To this destination radiating peace and beauty
With its mere presence

But every time I turn towards a painful cry
Not one shadow do I seem to find
Oh, I am lost in this peculiar darkness
With shadows vanishing from sight!

But being an impeccable warrior
I know that somewhere ahead of me
Lies that magnificent aura, the LIGHT
Beauty that is bound to blind it is so bright

So once again with destination in mind
And lantern burning steadily at my side
I extinguish each moment to moment
Seeking out the cries of shadows
I shall never find...

Author's Note: Shadows can only be found where light is near. When light finally arrives the shadows disappear. So tell me friend, where is this blinding light? Can you SEE?

This poem was written to accompany Ashok Sharda's above drawn concept, Light Once Decided to Meet the Darkness , for anyone interested in viewing his beautiful poetic interpretation.

Thought provoking work from both you and Ashok, Rula. It's like some great animal chasing its own tail, always in sight, but just beyond reach.

I agree with Art and I too see the light...Charlie

the secret of the light is that it blinds us as much as we can see, no more no less, taking not from us that visionary that was not there, which leaves us, permits us to see with shadows of which we have been equipped in multitudes. and you dear Rula are equipped with the balance of the two, you teetertottering you.

This is a marvelous interpretation, Rula. I especially like the shadowed effect you’ve given darkness in its relationship to the light. My first impression on the drawing was the universal message of growing old while searching for the light externally, when in fact the light is actually glowing from within. Pe4ce...

Rula, I love your poem. This is the kind of failure I long for - not to have the darkness and always be illuminated. And how true, wherever there is light, the darkness flees.

Yes, this poem is marvelous. The drawing is perfect as well.

‘Seeking out the cries of shadows, I shall never find’ yes, not with this destination, this goal in mind and ‘lantern burning steadily at my side’. These last lines not only conveys the inter relationship of the shadows and the light but also conveys your very basic instinct of a meaningful survival. Negating the negation produces the light, this concept is so simple despite all its complexities in application. But then we are left with no other course then to seek the shadows with this burning lantern at our side. Yes, where there is light there’s no darkness. You have so brilliantly uncovered this secret. I am happy that my drawing finds yet another dimension, yet another meaning in your beautiful words. Thanks.

I'm afraid (not) - shadows infer the presence of light, and I have seen shades...better to be blinded by the light, than blind to the light? We shall see :>
An absorbing journey - so far, and yet so near...
