Limbo

by Maureen Glaude

(for my sister and her husband)

no noise
no sound
no busyness
decipherable

this is a time of quiet aching breaths
as we wish the smooth performance skills
of our lungs
to be extended to his
the painlessness in our bodies
to be transferred to his

the bones of our bodies to replace and strengthen
his crushed and failing ones
that experience breaking
not only from mere movement
but even from embrace now

new manifestations
secondary cancer
after bone marrow disease
now in occupation of a lung

the noises she suffers of his suffering
and in her love prays eradicated
the frustration of the limbo of uncertainty
no satisfactory answers available
as doctors are not Gods

the sights she witnesses
unrelenting nightmare

no noise
no sight
in focus
unless it carries
solution
otherwise
a maze of
bewildering cacophony

we are quiet these days
we have no more words

A family tragedy...henous disease brilliantly expressed in what words remained. The fact you can't even hug him now is surprising, but makes sense considering the variety. God bless.

This is mourning. I can only pray with you for a solution. That the suffering cease! That God's grace be manifested. I grieve with you.
