Sailing The Trenchant Mind

by JD Clay

I spat

In AristotleÂ’s sea of logic

Mapped the untold universe in GalileoÂ’s eye

PlatoÂ’s polity lapping at the strake

Pythagorean commodore

Triangulates the southern trades

Second-guessing who I am

Descartes furls the jib

MagellanÂ’s skyline

Crowned with clouds

Disguised as mountains tethered to

DarwinÂ’s distant shore

League and fathom EinsteinÂ’s ocean

Reason on the lee

Da Vinci drafted mankindÂ’s passage

Architected even keel

Sarte Kant and Freud astern

To navigate the mastermind

Is tantamount to chart

A silent fart in a gale force wind

Wow, incredible. Where do I start? The end, “to navigate the mastermind is tantamount to chart a silent fart in a gale force wind” – Ha! How can it be said any better than this!? Round and round they go, never landing anywhere, “second guessing who I am” – I love this and how true that any question leads to the next question and never an answer! “Sail…The Trenchant Mind” and find your own slowly dulled by theories of impossibly limited perspectives. Oh you poets making me think so early in the morning! Haha Incredible poem JD really, so well written and meaningful.

LOL! You've expressed it so well! Philosophies are wonderful, even help sometimes. But they all have their limitations! St. Paul speaks of avoiding the philosophies of men (regarding spiritual matters especially). Brilliant commentary even in its "earthiness".

Great fun Jadi. {"Is that an ill wind that blows no good?")...Charlie

Yes, pouring from the void into emptiness.Questions leading to another question. But can any thing be said with finality? In the realm of belief, yes but not in the field of intellect.

such silent petarts be golden as would be the present company foretelling, faresighted in your poetry.

*dies laughing* at least you're not trying to pee into said winds. *grin* this rocks.

HA! wish you had told me this before I spent all that time trying to fathom that ocean of crap filled by the abovementioned.

Your crew the great exlorers of Western Civ, but only a whimper in the Great Mystery, not to speak of the Eastern papas and mamas. Clever and intelligent poem ending in a stale wind.

Quite a mouthful, and one hell of a closing line. Remarkably original, as per usual, JD.

I read this again with even greater appreciation. Not too long ago I listened to a cd series reviewing the great ideas of western philosophy. That process took hours and hours and I enjoyed it, but your poem capsulizes it with grace and acumen. What a sailor you are, jadi. Thanks again.
