matches

by Richard Trotter

I search, like picking out matches
from patchworks of labouring bonfires
not knowing what will crumble in ash
and which will be A to my B,
will the wounds weep like sunlight
or recoil in blisters of woe?

The last two lines were my favorite: "will the wounds weep like sunlight/or recoil in blisters of woe?" So much beauty in such quaint words.. I have always admired how you can take 2 knowingly simple words and fuse them together to make such gorgeous lines!

Those last two lines really struck me, as well..."will the wounds weep like sunlight"...that is brilliance.

Brilliantly haunting...like Edgar Allan Poe circa 2004. Indeed, academy award winning line: will the wounds weep like sunlight.
