Sitting at a Cafe in the City

by Kenneth Lau

What I wouldn't give
To be there right now
In that cafe
The snow falling outside
Filling the city streets with slush
Me smug snug and warm
Basking in the warmth of my cocoa

What I wouldn't give
To end the wait
For the days of independence
When my roof is my own
And my dream is my life

What i wouldn't give
To be there this day
In that cafe
As the jazz in the background
Starts up its next piece
My hand grasping with care
The cocoa I've just been served

What I wouldn't give
That that day should be now
Sitting at a table
In the company of friends
Discussing life's ups and downs

What I wouldn't give
What I wouldn't do
To be there already
Reflecting on memories
Analyzing dreams
In that cozy little
Cafe in the big city

What I wouldn't give
To live this dream as I speak
Life at its simplest
Beauty at its peak
Tucked away, in a cafe

those cozy relaxed moments of intimacy and reflection well captured here. Yes, cafe memories and dreams, we all have 'em.

Superbly spiritual thought provoking and entertaining read. Thanks for posting this Ken. Brought back fond childhood memories with lots of cocoa.

Mmmm... Gimme more cocoa! Very evocative. And yet, in the phrasing eg.
"What I wouldn't give
What I wouldn't do"
far more telling than it at first appears. (Hope you don't mind a crit? I'd edit or cut the second line of the last verse... IM me if you want to discuss?)
