Metamorphosis

by David R Spellman

Those tree frogs linger
and excite my senses,
like memories wrapped
around synaptic tendrils;
a constant flow they
don't stop their chatter
even when I yell "Be
quiet, damn you!" and they
might pause but a second
or less in time which
can't be measured for me,
perhaps for them either as
they paid no heed nor even
noticed my defiant shout
so I might think
about what I am or
will become...

Fascinating imagery. Especially liked "like memories wrapped around synaptic tendrils". The frogs, an analogy of nagging conscience or unpleasant memories, holding back spiritual maturity (suggested by last two lines.) Thought provoking,

LOL! David. Better not shout too loud, for who knows? Maybe in your next life you'll come back as a tree frog. :o)

Heh. I loved this play between human nature and...nature. Regardless of the circumstances, life marches on with both or all deaf and contrary to the other's wishes.

Ahhh! The evolutionary process of self-realization. You have broadened the spectrum with this visionary piece, Dave. Pe4ce...

I am quite taken with this verse. It is filled with primal memories, incredible imagery, and themes that can be taken in many different ways --how man tries to control nature, how man is removing himself from nature, but the realization that we like being "natural" and feel a call for it whether we want to admit it or not. Excellent verse.

It's all connected. Anyway. Darwin or Adam, we're all connected.
