I am helpless despite my realization of my helplessness by Ashok ShardaI am helpless despite my realization of my helplessness.
If there wasnt a past
There wont be any present
Future being the projections of the known.
If I wasnt born
I shall not die
The process of life being the process of death.
If there wasnt a cause
There wouldnt be an effect
All effects turning into cause for yet another effect.
The effect manifests in the present
The cause lies buried in the past
The present being the effect of the past.
Under this law of cause and effect
In tune with the law of accident
Subject to the laws, many more, known and unknown
This very poem of mine
Is nothing but an effect
Of the causes, which in fact were the effects
Of the causes
Reflecting effect, reflecting causes
So on
Retrospectively.
WHO AM I?
A helpless creature
Or just a dreamy witness?
(So I observe)
What FREE WILL is?
An effect of a cause
Or a JOKE?
(So I laugh)
How about my claims of my DOINGS?
A mere desired happening?
(So I conclude)
I am a persona non grata
In this vast schemes of things
Sitting in this tiny room
With a writing tool
In my hands
And an enlarged EGO
Claiming I AM.
I am helpless
Despite my realization of my helplessness.

Posted by Graeme Fielden on 06/09/04 at 12:08 AM Another cool, insightful piece of writing that's inspired me to ask as question, my friend...which did come first? The chicken, the egg or the feather duster? hehe...I like your style Mr Sharda, you always inspire thought :) |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/11/04 at 02:32 AM Fine piece of writing Ashok, very Einsteinish, clear in its projection. One of your recent best in my opinion, and a new favorite of mine; adds to favorites. |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 06/11/04 at 11:42 AM if you are non grata, then what is grata? how do things manifest in the present when there is no present? How can we observe when there are no eyes, but mirrors? Yes, we mark this so called life and watch worlds go round and given enough spin we would surely off them and that is how poems are spun, given enough mind twirl. |
Posted by Richard D Frederick on 06/12/04 at 02:09 PM compelling, given that we all are told the first step to solving a problem is knowing you have one. reading this in my western world-view and philosophies, it's sometimes striking to see how we differ and how we go hand-in-hand in thought. awesome. |
Posted by Michele Schottelkorb on 06/14/04 at 06:32 AM so i laugh, and i cry, and i learn, and i SEE, and i BE... yes, yes, yes... the world turns round and round and round... and you still stand there... and open our eyes... blessings... |

Posted by Rula Shin on 08/31/04 at 10:30 PM Cause and effect forever intertwined and hurling through space and time, unending and unchanging in essencewhat better definition of helplessness exists? Tell me, whats the difference between being a helpless creature or just a dreamy witness? Whats the difference between Free will and A JOKE if free will is an effect of a cause? Whats the difference between claiming a DOING and desiring a happening? All synonyms arent they? Realizing you are helpless, it seems, does not equate to conceding helplessness. Thats what I understood from this beautiful thinking poem. Brilliant as always Ashok. :-) |
