Time to Wage a War by Rula Shini am fighting my eyes
to stay awake but
still they keep on creeping
slow and steady
towards oblivion
all the while i
stretch them wide
fighting my tendencies
to slip off,
only a moment ago
i was dozing.
isnÂ’t now the time to struggle
and laugh at this hypocrite self
who keeps on deriving energies
which intending self needs for itself?
isnÂ’t now the time to wage a war,
grab the reigns and
predecide my predetermined WIN?
To end regrets by burying the past,
that was present
a moment ago
though I was not

Posted by Ashok Sharda on 06/08/04 at 02:46 AM Well, this is a brief account of the realization of our ‘natural’ tendency to doze off. This is also an account of the poet’s inner struggle to keep awake and remain active and watchful. This also reflects poet’s assertion to come out as the ultimate WINNER by predeciding her WIN. This is the only way, I think, one can fight one’s own self and win their associations, their energy source. This is the only way, I think, one can evolve and attain the ultimate goal, the oneness. All the best. By the way, the idea flows impeccably in this metaphysical poem. |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 06/11/04 at 11:19 AM this raises the question of what we would miss if we dared be bold to close our eyes an instant or an eternity. Also the question of time, if it indeed lies before or aft us and in us or is it illusion, as are worlds, as are words. You, dear Rula, give much food for thoughts, as they would not flare on their own, but are driven of catalyst. |

Posted by Richard D Frederick on 06/12/04 at 01:55 PM the first two stanzas struck me as a little redundant, but overall a thought-provoking piece. the last stanza was the most poetic. very nice. |
