The USS North Rockland (NJROTC)

by Amy Wustrin

Well, this ship is finally

heading for home port

after four years at sea

We've weathered some storms

and enjoyed some tranquility

This Voyage took me places

I never thought I'd be

Places beyond my front door

Places inside myself I never knew about

And everywhere I went felt like home

Every new discovery

made my surroundings more comfortable

From the streets of Chicago

To the barracks of Ft. Dix

How could I be homesick when my friends are my home

But now it seems this ship

The USS North Rockland (NJROTC)

Needs to refuel

And take on some new passengers

I've had my turn

I never cared much for math classes

Barthroom passes

Administrators or rules

But I wouldnt trade the footprints on my heart

for anything in the world

We'll be getting our

honorable discharges soon

Making tearful goodbyes

And promises to write

After we get settled in

I've got a photo album

in my mind

for every smile and tear

And every faded memory

And every resouding "HOORAH!"

I'll make the best of what's to come

A wide open future back on land

But I'll take this with me everywhere

My home port will forever be

Here with my old shipmates

Strong positive message here that I really needed to read and apply to my current situtation. Kudos!
