for my daughter, on Mother's Day by Michele Schottelkorbthank you, my daughter
for making me a mother
for tiny heartfelt kisses
for granting little wishes
for la Luna nights of endless fun
for water fights in the hot hot sun
for reading in our special chair
for accepting that Im bad with hair
for chocolate milk filled to the top
for run and skip and twirl and hop
for unicorns and bright pink dresses
for snuggling and great big messes
for poetry and singing larks
for healing boo-boos and scaring sharks
for conversations Id never known
for the World in light youve shown
for Dr Seuss; we love to rhyme
for giving me all your time
for little songs that come from nothing
for dancing with our hearts and stuffing
for kitties, dogs, snakes and turtles
for forcing me to jump my hurdles
for empathy and kindness true
for soft spirits that come from you
for midnight snacks and peter pan
for jack and sally and boogey man
for deep long gazes; bright blue eyes
for silver clouds and purple skies
for all the universe and the stars
for healing all my painful scars
for my daughter, thank you today for making me mommy, in every way05/09/2004 Author's Note: for without our children, we would not be mommies... so i thank her today...

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 05/09/04 at 08:44 PM Thank you so much for this beautiful poem. I'm not normally a fan of rimed couplets, but this flowed so well that I didn't notice the rime, only the sentiment. You timed it well, at least for me, since I miss my Mom, as we're 3000 miles apart. Ok, now I can go dry my tears... :-) |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 05/10/04 at 12:25 AM what a treat! Yes, I always think on Mom's Day, I am the grateful one for the blessings of my kids, and being blessed with them. And what treasured moments like those above, they brought to our lives. Beautiful, Michele. |

Posted by Ashok Sharda on 05/12/04 at 02:21 PM Well, I really dont know what to say. This is so beautiful, so full of vibrations, so much that I feel like playing this role of a MOM or a daughter. I think I can be your MOM or your daughter, as the situation might demand. A friend is a person capable of playing all kind of roles. |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/12/04 at 04:33 PM This is truly sweet, especially because you wrote your daughter a poem instead of her writing you one, but maybe in a couple of years? :o) |
