I DECIDE to float

by Rula Shin

Floating above the table
I see myself seeing
The whole scene
In the space of space

My eyes keep wandering
With my attention intact
I see faces hiding faces
I hear words hiding faces
I see myself non-seeing
I see every expression
Expressed with no isolation

I focus on that same crowd
moving like machines
reacting to everything 'normally'
ItÂ’s here awareness
Transcends awareness and
I am in a different space
I am digging my own grave!

In this space my associations
Twist and turn in new directions
Transforming the meaning
of meaning
ItÂ’s ME twisting them!

Lingering above the table
I laugh
Slowly starting to fallÂ…
Merging back into myself

Oh! How peaceful a space
Where moments ago I
Despaired, trapped in delusion

very good self-awareness poem you have here... to see within the looking glass and realize our faults and attributes is a wise behavior... great writing... blessings...

I really enjoyed reading this. In fact, I read it aloud. Thats how I think poems are meant to be read. This one has such captivating style; its so isolated in itself. This peice is full of introspection, in reality and imagination. Very good read Rula.

it is always wonderful tripping away from the host, but Oh, what prodigal to regain the home of which the heart was therein contained and e'er present and more welcoming your return, than any mat.

Stemming from your decision [to float], I can't help but wonder if the delusion you have eluded to isn't vise-versa. All above board mind you. A twisty poem indeed, Rula. Pe4ce...

WHOA! Talk about an out of body experience. Love the metaphysical/introspective tone that nicely keeps the piece and the readers' interest afloat. Is there room for two up there??? :o)

Awareness has got many layers. And SCENE from each one is so different, though externally the scene remains the same from the fellow co-dreamers point of view. But in its meaning, in its understanding, in its SEEING, it means so different. As a matter of fact its from here we start SEEING. ‘faces hiding faces…. words hiding faces. Even SEEING our non-seeing’. The SCENE isn’t an isolated SCENE. Its ‘the whole scene’ each space connected to the other, moments one, while one walks into ‘the space of the space’ ( in other words in the space of the time, after all, space just can’t be separated from this space time continuum). ‘It’s here awareness Transcends awareness and one is ‘in a different space.’ Yes, on a different level where the meaning of meaning takes a new course, a new meaning. ‘My eyes keep wandering With my attention intact’ Here the poet seem to be elaborating on the process of transcending this illusional ‘common’ layer of awareness. I hope the readers can pick some useful exercise from these two lines. This decision to float above the table is an ACT of an INDIVIDUAL rather than ever reacting ‘crowd moving like a machine’. Well, one ought to choose one self since no body chooses no body on this decision of floating above the table. Yes, its a self- awareness poem as Michelle prefers to call it. And definitely eluding the delusion as Jd suspects in not suspecting. Haha. In the whole, it’s a good decision, the only choice one has in this scheme of things. To ACT as an active force.

A well executed metaphore, that we need to stand outside ourselves to gain new perspectives. (I LOVE the title too - a real attention grabber)

Well Said. A familiar thought for me as well.

Of course it's all in the layers, and juxtaposing the different rates at which everything is occuring. SO MUCH is occuring even if we could use NINE sets of seers. I love to imagine it all. You've captured that imagining here, and the geometric ability to experience the layers simultaneously, if that makes ANY sense at all! What a fascinating read!!!
