Bicycle Dreams

by Chris Sorrenti

        for Karen S

Wood ramp against curb
calls to bicycle wings
kids riding in visitor parking
through window I wave
my vacant driveway
the start point of run up
with a zoom and a yip
they go
they go higher
no higher than inches
me and my bicycle soon outside
inner child calling for escapade

With a scoot and a holler
I'm a wooshhh
past end of the driveway
I go
I go faster
front wheel then back
tire - wood impact
I go
I go higher
first over field
then over houses
faster the pedals
higher my wheels
with a wave and a shout
at astonished kids

See - here's how it's done!

:D I love this! It reminds me of everything I miss, like playing on the street infront of my house and looking for animals by the creek. This conjured so many good memories and alot of people will be able to relate. Awesome job :)

Ooh the form is excellent! I say this not because I know anything about form but because I actually felt like I was zooming on that bicycle myself! Nice effect Chris...I really enjoyed this one...very fun and spirited and made me smile in response to my resulting nostalgic day dreams...lovely expression of a youthful heart and the momentary recapture of boyhood adventure. :-)

Reminds me of my youth of how I tried to skateboard and show my sister how to. Of course not like riding a bike. Thank you for the poem.

you show 'em, Chris! riding a bicycle, you can always take it up again. and jumps too! ah, spring. hula hoops and all. Great fun poem, full of spirit and being young at heart. I remember another bike one you had about jumps, I think, a different one with only you in it?

Yes this is quite a flashback to childhood memories of wrecking myself off of homemade jumps :) This is wonderful Chris, great concept and great language.

from my angle, bicycles are where it's at. Long live youth and bicycling and long live your poem.

'kids riding in visitor parking' in the D3, you flew on the 4th. 4th dimension, I mean. We all do.Or was it in the 5th? hahahaha.

Great fun! Reliving childhood fantasy! Never get too old to think young! :)
