things would be different by Michele Schottelkorbif Time stood still
and clock hands moved backwards
if emotion ran society
and intent fell behind
if acceptance bred change
and apologies became sincere
then, things would be different
if narcissism did not exist
and beauty ran vein deep
if starsearching ruled
and petty lies vanished
if tears washed pain away
and honesty became golden
then, things would be different
if bloody fools disappeared
and worlds spun unified
if weapons fired loving looks
and truth begat wisdom
if spirit was a commodity
and salvation came from kindness
then, things would be different
if you could look into the mirror
and see your real face
if you could change your sorry soul
and blow away deceit
if you could think not of yourself
and live a life of service
Things would be different
But, then again, things are not

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 04/06/04 at 12:58 PM a fine "if" anaphoric poem, Michelle. those conditions so ideal, yes if only |
Posted by Richard Paez on 04/06/04 at 02:22 PM I know this poem probably wasn't intended for song, but I think it would make great lyrics. I agree with Maureen's point about the anaphoric structure--normally in lyric it's only the chorus that has such a strong hook to it, but this is barbed all the way down, it sticks to you. Good tone, concept and imagery. Thank for sharing this Michele. |M| |
Posted by Ashok Sharda on 04/07/04 at 03:09 AM Oh! There are lots of IF for this world to become a beautiful place to dwell upon.hahahaha The first and the foremost would be to SEE things from as many corners one can SEE, but will this EGO ever allow one to SEE that one is not the center of WHAT IS. SEEING is very intricate thing and unfortunately BLINDS cannot SEE not because they are blinds but because they cannot SEE there BLINDNESS. The moment one can realize one's BLINDNESS one starts SEEING. SEEING NONSEEING is SEEING in real sense because then you start SEEING. |
