Better Sex

by Maureen Glaude

yoga for improved sex
the newspaper article quotes therapists
in today's spread of claims and
photos of models in tights
performing their positions

no news here, to me
except that you can now
buy the DVD collection
or visit the "Better Sex through Yoga
website"

the drive's aroused by more than leotards
and body suits in warm quarters

what other workout stirs
your “sexual core”
awakens your awareness of this realm of the body?

well, okay, maybe there's one other

Yoga's not just the Frogs, Warriors and
Cobras that we yogini practice, afterall
or the Cat Stretch and The Dog

the favorite pose for some
(yogis or just voyeurs)
is the Sex Kitten

gurus have been grappling
with this can of worms
the impact on sexuality
from yoga for centuries
that's why the book I bought in the Sevenites
has a chapter called "Sex, Alas"
as the effect can even get in the way
and reminds yogis of the discipline
that must accompany serious practicioners

saying good morning to the sun
or stretching out in open lotus
addressing the solar plexis
builds vitality over fatigue
hypers up glands and frees the body in all ways
not to mention what the pelvic tilts of the bridge
and thrusts
and the reversal in the bow
(that as a bonus tightens the buttocks
building the appeal for next time)
keeps the spine young
enhancing agility and back strength
versatily of position?

and then there’s couple’s yoga
what better foreplay
than to lie in bed and observe
your partner do their Hatha?
or join them for a harmonious
co-operative work-out?
play animals together?
blend minds, bodies and souls
simultaneously?

From Kundalini, Kurunta to Tantric
and of course the pivotal Chakras
but just plain Hatha will do
it for you too

power and strength in waiting
holding the position before
release, relaxation
all the heavy breathing...controlled
to help control...pace, restraint
and pleasure

meditations to inspire the openness

for fantasy
the peacefulness that builds
beauty of the skin and the body
the highs of spirituality
and reaching secret mindscapes

it’s no mystery
to me, why yoga’s endured for centuries
and is more popular now than ever

so throw out your Viagara, folks
get down on your mats!
And no, you don't need a cigarette now!

Cool poem, I never thought of Yoga as sexy or sexual, or as a sexual aid. LOL

Exit Dr. Ruth. Enter Dr. Reen. Yes, any exercise in fact that increases circulation, stamina, etc. and thus mental well being is a plus in all departments, including sex. Which reminds me, I really should give that bike of mine an overhaul and get back on the road. I always felt so much better after a good spin.

Your sutra picks up where Masters and Johnson leaves off, Mo. You've stirred my mind and squirmed my seat. Excuse me now while I warm some oil. Pe4ce...

And here I thought Yoga was all about relaxation and discipline! LOL! Most fascinating.

Oh gees, I wish you had written and I had read this about 15 years ago, it might have done me/us some good. Alas, bones too inflexible now but the thought and image evoked by this Glaudian thrust refresh and excite... hope I am never too old to enjoy a fiesty romp like this one. Thanks, my friend, I needed that.

I have come late to this gem and now stand awed in its still blazing light. Now, I must know the Hatha...and see if its magic does indeed transcend the creaky complaints of a fast-gathering age..:)
