To Be or Not To Be by Michele SchottelkorbTo be or not to be Is a perpetual quest (Shakespeare knew, so very well) A point of revocation The ultimate limit of tolerance The area where nothing matters Nothing more can be learned Nothing transpires Nor can anything lead to anything. This is the glitch in the matrix of Life The time has now arrived Where a choice is to be made Conscious and willing To transform the image
Matter
And entire Being Of that of a SOMEBODY to that of a NOBODY
Conscious efforts are needed With the switch of the heart The feeling that once was, now has changed to no feeling The SOMEBODY (that once ruled here) Has left And the one who exists In SOMEBODY'S absence Is just a NOBODY.
The choice is yours To be forever plagued by the parasitical SOMEBODY Or not to be in league with the NOBODY
I choose not to be
03/26/2004 Author's Note: this is my second poem for the NOBODY growth series... this is the original lesson Ashok had me ponder... How to turn a SOMEBODY into a NOBODY... in this particular poem, i sent Ashok a rough draft of some scribbles, which he sent back basically in the form you see above... i think i like the way it sounds now and am ready to try to apply this lesson to Life... the italicized words are Ashok's... ironically, i think they are interesting placed and give the poem an interesting feel... i italicized them to give credit for how much work he did on this piece... once again, my gratitude to Ashok, for continuing to help others, especially me, with their personal growth, above and beyond what is required here... you are a blessing...

Posted by Ashok Sharda on 03/26/04 at 06:51 PM This deals with the need and the situation where in this meaningless SOMEBODY is to be turned in to a nonexistent NOBODY, who despite all the meaninglessness remains a big part of our lives in the sense that in the course of our lives we had have many associations created and internalized making this person more alive. You have dealt with these situations and the need to turn this SOMEBODY into a NOBODY so clearly and convincingly in this beautiful poetic piece. Now I think you ought to ponder and write another piece dealing with the actual process as to how to turn this SOME BODY into a NOBODY. All the best. |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 03/26/04 at 10:59 PM wow, very deep and interesting. My daughter and I both loved Hamlet, for the struggles with decisions the lead character went through and that line, to be...you've given it a fine treatise here and I really think it worthwhile people consider the risk of the nobody vs somebody in their lives. Well done. |

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 02/25/05 at 12:55 AM One of the best thought provoking poems I've ever read; aerobics for the mind in that classic Ashokian tradtion. Well done! |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 08/18/05 at 12:31 PM Hey, Michele can I have my choice to be and not to be at the same time, but then again it seems that I already do, when I think I'm definitely here and somebody disputes that belief with, hey buddy you ain't all there. but this poem is definitely all there, as Shakespeare would attest if he still was all here. |
