A More Serious Look at Ars Poetica (1)

by Maureen Glaude

a poem is
a fossil trace in an ancient rock
the treasure sought and found
in archeological digs

a glyph on granite
as the morning sun lands there
a pictograph
to mark that man was here
and was moved to creation
in his moment

not just that he lived but used craft to leave
art to address the why and what for
of human existence

a response to life
communicated to his fellows
and for anthropologists to interpret

a poem is an imprint to show
one has been, walked and felt
effecting changes to the manuscript of
immortality

a poem is
yesterday, today and tomorrow
made magnificent

So true so true ma dear. This piece just vibrates with the aformentioned quality, not to mention wisdom. It reminds me of some lines from a poem I wrote in 1984, but have yet to revise/release: Physically you may be 50, mentally only five, but spiritually you are ageless, baby so alive.

A very striking analogy! Poem as a fossil! Thought provoking. Anthropologists will love this one. :)

What a great way to represent what we do. The connection with archeology evokes the timelessness of creativity. Especially like the last two verses.
